IPL is most effective on individuals with lighter skin tones and darker hair colors.
This is because the light energy is primarily absorbed by the melanin pigment in the hair and skin
FAQ
What exactly is IPL technology?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) hair removal operates by emitting intense pulses of light, which are absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles. Then, the absorbed light converts into heat, causing damage to the follicles and preventing future hair growth
What is the difference between IPL and Laser?
The primary distinction between IPL and laser lies in the light they employ. IPL, or intense pulsed light, utilizes a broad spectrum of pulsed light, while lasers emit a single, monochromatic beam. Both IPL and laser methods target the melanin in hair follicles, offering the potential for permanent results. However, the effectiveness of treatment is influenced by factors such as energy, frequency, and hair color, with the type of light source —whether laser or intense pulsed flash light — playing a secondary role
Is IPL effective?
IPL is a type of FDA-cleared light treatment, clinically proven effective by independent scientific research, along with positive experiences from thousands of users
When can I see the effect, and is it permanent?
Most customers start to see evident hair reduction after 3-4 weeks. With 2-3 treatments per week, the effect becomes completely evident after 12 weeks. After each treatment, hair will grow much more sparsely and thinly. Eventually, hair reduction becomes permanent. To maintain the skin’s smoothness, you need to do 1 treatment every 2 to 3 months or as required. Both the outcome and frequency of treatment are different case by case.
According to FDA’s regulations, permanent hair removal means ‘continued and steady reduction of hair over a prolonged period’, which we provide, though some may interpret the term ‘permanent’ differently. Please know that even the photo-therapy used in clinics is not entirely permanent.
Is it painful?
Unlike laser hair removal, IPL or intense pulsed light hair removal is generally considered to be much safer and less painful. This is because IPL uses a multi-spectrum bulb vs a single-wavelength laser. You may feel a slight tingle in sensitive areas during treatment, but it should not be painful
What skin tone and hair color are suitable for IPL device?
It is important to note that IPL is most effective on individuals with lighter skin tones and darker hair colors. This is because the light energy is primarily absorbed by the melanin pigment in the hair. In individuals with darker skin tones, the excess melanin in the skin can also absorb light energy, leading to potential skin damage.
Similarly, IPL may not be as effective on individuals with light hair colors such as blonde, gray, or red. This is because these hair colors have less melanin content, making it challenging for the IPL device to target the hair follicles effectively.
To ensure the effectiveness and safety of IPL hair removal, we recommend users to refer to the provided skin tone chart before making a purchase.
Which body parts can I use my handset on?
Lightuch handset is effective to use everywhere that hair grows, including your arms, underarms, hands, legs, chin, neck, back, and bikini line. It is not recommended to use around your eyes without protective eyewear.
How often do I need to use my handset?
We recommend using your handset 3 times a week for the first three weeks to see your first results, then twice a week for the next three weeks. After that, you can use it once or twice a month as needed for touchups for three more weeks.
Additionally, we suggest making adjustments based on your hair growth. If you notice thicker hair or stubborn areas, you can increase the gear level and frequency of usage. However, it's important to monitor your skin's reaction and adjust accordingly to avoid any discomfort or adverse effects.
Who should not use IPL?
IPL hair removal device is not recommended if you have any of the following:
- A known skin disorder
- Skin diseases such as allergic dermatitis, eczema, etc.
- Photosensitive epilepsy or Photosensitivity
- Are menstruating, pregnant, or lactating
- Dark black or Sunburnt skin (please refer to the skin tone chart)
- Broken skin, a scab or healed wound, cancer or hemangioma
- Any artificial aesthetic, prosthetic, or plastic area
- Tattoo area
Do I need to shave before using IPL?
Yes, we recommend that you shave the treatment area before using your handset. Shaving the hair to the appropriate length will help IPL effectively focus on the hair follicles.
